Tears for Sophie

 Draft 1

Sophie, my dear Yorkie, so small and so bright, My companion, my friend, my shining light, We were inseparable, from the start, With love so deep, it filled my heart.

I taught you fetch, and potty trained, We went on trips, and snuggled, no strain, We ran together, in the sun, Life was great, and so much fun.

But one day, I left you with someone, A trust misplaced, a mistake that was undone, Left alone, and not watched, Too close to the road, and that was your lot.

When I came home, I saw you there, Still and peaceful, in your forever sleep, My heart was shattered, my tears flowed, A life taken too quickly, too soon, it showed.

But through the pain, a lesson was learned, Of the fragility of life, and the bridges that are burned, I'll always remember you, my dear Sophie, And the love we shared, will forever be with me.

Draft 2

Sophie, my dear Yorkie, so small and so fair My companion, my friend, my love beyond compare We were inseparable, since you were just a pup With love so deep, it filled my heart up.

I taught you fetch, and potty trained you too We went on trips and snuggled, me and you We ran together, in the sun so bright Life was great, and everything felt just right.

But one day, I left you with someone I shouldn't trust A mistake that led to your untimely death, a must Left alone, unguarded and free Too close to the road, and that was where you'd be.

When I came home, I saw you there, so still Peaceful in sleep, my heart with a chill My tears flowed, my heart was shattered A life taken too quickly, too soon, it mattered.

But through the pain, a lesson was learned Of the fragility of life, and bridges that are burned I'll always remember you, my dear Sophie, And the love we shared, will forever be with me.
